Geographical Bioinformatics Systems

چکیده
Geographical Bioinformatics Systems (GBS) represent the marriage between two distinct and well established fields, GIS & Bioinformatics. Bioinformatics refer to the use of computers to handle biological information—that is, the use computers to store, compare, retrieve, analyze and predict the composition or structure of biomolecules. On the other hand, the term Geographic Information Systems (GIS) refers to the computerized database management system for the capture, storage, retrieval, analysis, and display of spatial data. GIS is no longer restricted to the fields of computer science, geography, cartography or environmental science, but nowadays GIS tools and techniques are successfully used and implemented in many other fields of life, such as advertising, agribusiness, banking, entertainment, estate management, finance, food services, health services, insurance, manufacturing, pharmaceutical services, retail and utilities, social services, travel services and many more. This paper explores the merger of these two distinct fields GIS & Bioinformatics, and also explores the prospect for research and development in these two areas.

Role of remote sensing, geographical information system (GIS) and bioinformatics in kala-azar epidemiology
Visceral leishmaniasis or kala-azar is a potent parasitic infection causing death of thousands of people each year. Medicinal compounds currently available for the treatment of kala-azar have serious side effects and decreased efficacy owing to the emergence of resistant strains. The type of immune reaction is also to be considered in patients infected with Leishmania donovani (L. donovani). Fo...

Finding repetitive subsequences in genome is a challengeable problem in bioinformatics research area. A lot of approaches have been proposed to solve the problem, which could be divided to library base and de novo methods. The library base methods use predetermined repetitive genome’s subsequences, where library-less methods attempt to discover repetitive subsequences by analytical approach...
متن کاملBioinformatics to Biostochastics: Statistical Perspectives and Tasks Ahead
Bioinformatics is an emerging field of science emphasizing the application of mathematics, statistics, and informatics to study and analysis of very large molecular biological (mostly, genetic and genomic) systems (data sets). In a comparatively broader setup of large biological systems without necessarily having a predominant genetic undercurrent, and having genesis in biometry to biostatistic...
متن کاملA Methodology for Unified Assessment of Physical and Geographical Dependencies of Wide Area Measurement Systems in Smart Grids
Wide Area Measurement Systems (WAMS) enable real time monitoring and control of smart grids by combining digital measurement devices, communication and control systems. As WAMS consist of various infrastructures, they imply complex dependencies among their underlying systems and components of different types, such as cyber, physical and geographical dependencies. Although several works exist in...
